When it comes to recommending family-friendly resorts on the Riviera Maya, Hotel Xcaret Mexico is always at the top of my list. Everyone in the family will find something they love thanks to access to Xcaret's eight parks; nature tours; ferry rides to Isla Mujeres and Cozumel aboard Xcaret Xailing; and the wide selection of restaurants, pools and activities.

It didn't seem like there could be more to add until the recent announcement that Hotel Xcaret Mexico is investing $700 million to expand its family program by summer 2025.

The expansion will double the hotel's lodging capacity to a whopping 1,800 guestrooms spread across 10 distinct Casas, up from the original five Casas. These Casas, inspired by Mayan symbols, are tailored to specific age groups. There will be Casas for families with kids up to age 9, tweens ages 10-12 and teens ages 13-17, as well as adults-only Casas featuring private rooftops and exclusive dining options.

Hotel Xcaret Mexico's already impressive pool selection will be expanded to 16 pools, four of which will be on rooftops: two family-friendly pools, one just for teens and another for adults. Five waterslides will be introduced, as well.

The entertainment selection is also due for an upgrade. From a kids' hotelito (a tiny, kid-themed hotel) to a teen club, younger guests are in for a treat. Families can also bond at the new Xinema, a 24-hour restaurant and movie theater concept.

Dining at the Hotel Xcaret Mexico will be expanded to include 20 signature restaurants, doubling the number of culinary offerings. I'm particularly pleased to see the continued presence of Michelin-starred chef Carlos Gaytan at Ha', as well as the introduction of other top chefs, like Paco Mendez, whose restaurant Come in Barcelona has earned a Michelin star. He will be at the helm of the hotel's Encanta restaurant.

Hotel Xcaret Mexico was already a top-tier resort for families, but this new investment is going to solidify its place as almost a standalone destination.
