Alaska Air Group, which now includes the Hawaiian Airlines brand, will turn Seattle into a global transpacific gateway.

On May 12, the company will commence service between Seattle and Tokyo Narita using Hawaiian-branded Airbus A330-200 aircraft. It will expand in October with flights from Seattle to Seoul.

In total, Alaska Air Group plans to serve at least a dozen global destinations with widebody aircraft from Seattle by 2030. More specifics on destinations will be revealed at a later date.

Alaska Air Group made the announcement at its Investor Day event on Dec 10. The company also announced plans to increase connectivity for travelers from the East Coast and Midwest to Hawaii, via the West Coast. Those will include new redeye flights from Honolulu to Portland and San Francisco and from Maui to Portland, facilitating daytime connections further east.

Alaska Air Group also said it will increase utilization of the Hawaiian fleet, including 25% more utilization of Airbus A321 planes and an increase in the usage of Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

"This strategy mitigates the impact of delayed Boeing 737 deliveries while enabling us to expand our overall network reach," the company said.
