The U.S. State Department is warning travelers of the potential for terrorist organization-inspired violence against LGBTQ persons and events and is advising U.S. citizens overseas to exercise increased caution.

The alert also said that U.S. citizens and interests in general may be the target of "terrorist attacks, demonstrations or violent actions."

The warning suggests travelers stay alert in locations frequented by tourists, including Pride celebrations and venues frequented by LGBTQ persons.

The alert comes shortly after the FBI issued a similar warning earlier this month of the potential for foreign terrorist organizations to target LGBTQ-related events and venues. The FBI specifically said terror groups may seek to exploit the increase in gatherings associated with the Pride Month this June.
