How does the Mousai magic work in Cancun?

If you've ever been to Puerto Vallarta, chances are you've heard whispers of Hotel Mousai. It's where luxury meets playfulness, with an unapologetically bold style that is a departure from the beige, neutral tones that are the design aesthetic du jour. That signature Mousai magic has now officially landed in Cancun.

Perched along a stretch of beachfront in Costa Mujeres, the Hotel Mousai Cancun, which opened in June, adds 88 rooms to the Yucatan peninsula. I checked into a corner suite with a wraparound terrace offering uninterrupted views of the brilliant blues of the Caribbean Sea and Isla Mujeres in the distance. Each suite at the adults-only, all-inclusive hotel has a furnished terrace with an inviting hammock and private plunge pool to cool off in, just like the suites at its Puerto Vallarta counterpart.

But the magic of the Mousai Cancun extends beyond its suites. As a guest, you'll have full access to the facilities of the neighboring Garza Blanca resort, one of Cancun's best family-friendly retreats. Between the two properties, guests have a dizzying array of options to relax, explore and unwind, from lounging at Garza Blanca's beachfront pool to sipping cocktails at the adults-only rooftop infinity pool at the Mousai.

Infinity pool and beyond

About that rooftop pool: It's a stunner. It features sweeping views of the Caribbean Sea, with an inviting row of chaise lounges and a restaurant and bar for casual bites and cocktails. If you happen to be up early, it's also a wonderful spot to catch the sunrise.

If you prefer to stay grounded, there's also a beachfront pool at the Hotel Mousai Cancun just off the lobby with its own restaurant and bar. It's steps from the slice of beachfront, as well.

No stay at Hotel Mousai Cancun would be complete without a visit to Spa Imagine at Garza Blanca. Known as being one of the top spa experiences in Cancun, this ethereal, washed-in-white sanctuary has a full range of treatments, including massages, facials, hydrotherapy and body scrubs. With views of the ocean through the floor-to-ceiling windows, it's one of the most visually stunning spas in town.

Dining at the Hotel Mousai Cancun

When it's time to dine, the Hotel Mousai Cancun steps it up. Most of the restaurants are located at the Garza Blanca, including Bocados Steakhouse, Hiroshi for Japanese cuisine, Dao for Chinese and the new Gourmet Hall featuring five specialty kitchens. Hotel Mousai's signature restaurant is the Italian-themed Noi, located just off the lobby underneath soaring ceilings and colorful pop art paintings. Leave room for the four-cheese gnocchi — it's worth it.

For those who know the original Hotel Mousai in Puerto Vallarta, the arrival of this sister property in Cancun will feel like a homecoming. It brings the same vibrant energy, bold design and playfully luxurious vibe that made the Puerto Vallarta location so beloved. And yet, it offers something entirely unique, with its beachfront location and views of the Caribbean Sea that make it decidedly Cancun.

Hotel Mousai's expansion isn't stopping here. Word on the street is that another Mousai is slated to open on the Riviera Maya, though we have yet to get a timeline on that.
