Hawaii's royal palace Iolani Palace is opening in the evenings for tours on Dec. 28 and 29. They're being held in honor of Queen Kapiolani's birthday (Dec. 31) and wil give guests the chance to experience a party at the palace as it would have been in the 19th century.

"This is one of the few times guests have the opportunity to see Iolani Palace at night," Paula Akana, executive director of The Friends of Iolani Palace, said in a news release. "The beautiful lights and our talented entertainers bring such a unique and vibrant energy into the palace, portraying the amazing experience one would have had at a party hosted by His Majesty King Kalakaua."

Guides will lead guests through Queen Kapiolani's bedroom, the music room, blue room and throne room. There will also be musical performances by Chamber Music Hawaii, Hawaiian singer Kuuipo Kumukahi and Hawaii Opera Theatre. Tours will run every 15 minutes from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Reservations are required, and tickets are $50 for adults, $25 for children ages 6 to 12.
