The Tivoli Palazzo Gaddi Firenze hotel in Florence's city center recently unveiled the results of a complete, multiyear renovation.
A former 16th-century palace, the 86-room property comprises two buildings belonging to two aristocratic Florentine families -- the Gaddis and the Arrighettis.
The building, which features typical Florentine architecture, was renovated by interior designers Patrizia Quartero and Guy Oliver with the aim of preserving the character and spirit of its Renaissance history and with the help of specialized restorers and local artisans.
Accommodations include eight suites that blend authentic period furnishings and Florentine art with contemporary comfort and functionality. The presidential suite features a terrace with panoramic views of the city's skyline, including the Duomo cathedral.
The Terrae fine dining restaurant, overseen by Michelin-starred executive chef Iside de Cesare and resident chef Salvatore Canargiu, features Tuscan and Italian cuisine with local and seasonal products in a setting that includes The Secret Garden, a small winter garden.
Guests can also dine at the Aria Rooftop bar overlooking the city, which also serves predinner aperitifs and cocktails.
The Milton Bar in the lobby, named for poet John Milton, who is said to have written "Paradise Lost" during his stay in 1638, offers a fireplace and library, refreshments and dining throughout the day, as well as a selection of Italian cheeses and wines.
Bespoke experiences include dining by candlelight in a frescoed ballroom, a cooking class with chef Iside and a Tuscan meal in the hotel's private winery.
