Salamander Hotels & Resorts has taken over operation of the former Mandarin Oriental Washington D.C., relaunching the property as the Salamander Washington D.C.

Private equity real estate firm Henderson Park, which recently acquired the property, announced in July that it had tapped Virginia-based Salamander to rebrand and assume management of the hotel.

The Salamander Washington D.C. is in the process of updating its lobby and renaming the lobby bar. Guestrooms will be getting new artwork, including photography taken by Salamander CEO Sheila Johnson.

All suite accommodations will be fully refurbished. The hotel's club lounge, which has been shuttered throughout the pandemic, will be renovated and reopened as the Monument Club.

The property's restaurant, which plans to bring on a new chef, is in transition, currently serving only breakfast. The restaurant is expected to be repositioned and reopened by next spring. A patisserie, featuring grab-and-go options, will be added on the hotel's main level.

Also undergoing a refresh is the property's spa, which has been renamed under the Salamander Spa brand. The spa will get additional treatment rooms as well as a new street-level entrance.

The Salamander Washington D.C. joins Virginia's Salamander Resort & Spa, Jamaica's Half Moon resort, Colorado's Aspen Meadows Resort, South Carolina's Hotel Bennett, the Florida Gulf Coast's Innisbrook Resort and Anguilla's Aurora Anguilla Resort & Golf Club in the Salamander portfolio.
