A new luxury hotel is set to debut next summer in Santa Cruz, Calif.
La Bahia Hotel & Spa will occupy a beachfront site near the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. It was previously home to several apartments and a small hotel. The property dates back to 1926; a bell tower has been restored and preserved.
"The building was renowned for its Juliet balconies overlooking vibrant interior
courtyards, romantic grillwork and sun-splashed tile. Through many iterations,
the structure and timeless persona has endured," said the hotel in a news release.

The 155-room hotel will feature 16 suites, four dining venues and more than 13,000 square feet of event space. Culinary options will include the High Tide destination restaurant, the more casual Low Tide Bar & Grill, the Pearl champagne bar and a poolside venue called Plunge.
The hotel's Spa at La Bahia will offer four indoor and four outdoor treatment rooms as well as a sauna, steam rooms and a rooftop "zen deck." Other amenities will include beach butler service and several event spaces, including the 4,000-square-foot Bahia Ballroom and 5,200-square-foot Seaside Roof Deck.
Hotel developer Ensemble says La Bahia is "poised to redefine luxury hospitality" in Santa Cruz.
"Upon arrival, guests will feel that they are stepping into a friend's welcoming seaside estate, as worldly artifacts and a Spanish Mediterranean design envelop the senses with a calm coastal breeze," Ensemble said.
The hotel says reservations are open for late summer.
