Milwaukee's largest hotel is embarking on a $40 million renovation project, which is slated for completion this summer.
Formerly known as the Hilton Milwaukee City Center, the hotel's name has been shortened to Hilton Milwaukee. The hotel originally opened in 1928, operating as the Schroeder Hotel.

As part of the revamp, the Hilton Milwaukee will update the 554 guestrooms located within the historic hotel's original footprint. The renovation plans exclude 175 rooms in a separate tower, with those accommodations to be removed from the hotel's available inventory. Hotel owner Marcus Hotels & Resorts said it decided to shrink the hotel's room count after an assessment of market conditions and projected supply and demand.
The completed guestrooms will blend 1920s aesthetics with modern elements, featuring warm color palettes, soft wood and gold accents, and contemporary furnishings. Other room updates will include upgraded HVAC systems, the addition of motion-sensor lighting and remodeled bathrooms with Kohler fixtures.
The property's 34,000 square feet of meeting and event space will also undergo a comprehensive refresh, while preserving historical features like chandeliers and antique mirrors.
The hotel's two-story lobby will similarly retain its art deco elements, including its marble pillars and floors, geometric motifs and lobby bar with original stone and metal fireplace.
The Hilton Milwaukee has been part of the Historic Hotels of America since 2011.
