Eric Stonestreet, best known for his role as Cameron Tucker on ABC family sitcom "Modern Family," was named godfather of the Norwegian Aqua. The Norwegian Cruise Line ship will be christened in Miami on April 13.
Stonestreet earned two Emmy Awards on "Modern Family" as outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series. He also has provided the voice of Duke in the "The Secret Life of Pets" film franchise, appeared in films "Bad Teacher" and "Identity Thief," and hosted a reality competition series on Fox called "Domino Masters."
He can currently be seen in the second season of "The Santa Clauses," a Disney+ series.
Commenting on the godfather honor, Stonestreet said, "Traveling the world to meet new people and explore new places is something I love to do, and after recently experiencing what Norwegian has to offer, I can attest that Norwegian truly makes it easy to do more of what I enjoy while on vacation."
Stonestreet brings joy to audiences through his humor, while NCL brings joy to guests with its experiences, the cruise line.
"Eric's authenticity, wit, charm and genuine desire to bring happiness to the masses embodies the role of godfather for Norwegian Aqua, as well as who we are and what we stand for as a company," said NCL president David Herrera.
The Aqua, the first cruise ship in the Prima Plus class, is about 10% larger than predecessors Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva. The ship will feature a hybrid waterslide/rollercoaster, the first clay sauna at sea and a Thai specialty restaurant.
After the christening voyage, the Aqua will sail seven-day cruises from Port Canaveral beginning April 26, calling at Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; Tortola, British Virgin Islands; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; and Great Stirrup Cay, the brand's private island in the Bahamas that is getting a pier late in 2025.
The Aqua will cruise five- and seven-day voyages to Bermuda from New York City from August to October 2025 and from May to October 2026. After its Bermuda season, the Aqua will sail five- and seven-day Eastern Caribbean itineraries from October 2025 to April 2026 and again from November 2026 to March 2027.
