Carnival Cruise Line has done away with long lines for late-night pizza, closing pizza counters at midnight and directing guests to the Lido Marketplace for late-night dining.

The lido buffet is open from 11:30 p.m. until 2 or 2:30 a.m., said a Carnival spokesman. Carnival is serving Chicago-style pizza, buffalo cauliflower, fried chicken tenders, hot dogs, hot and cold sandwiches, french fries, soup, potato salad, coleslaw, chips and salsa, and cookies and cake slices for dessert.

The pizza counter previously closed between 2 and 2:30 a.m. on most ships. Under the new schedule, the pizza counters will close at midnight and reopen at 9 a.m.

The pizza counter serves made-to-order personal pizzas. The pizza available on the lido buffet is served by the slice, so it is available efficiently, a spokesman said. Made-to-order pizzas are also available via room service at any time.

The announcement about the change in late-night dining came from the Facebook page of John Heald, Carnival Cruise Line's ambassador, who said guests have written to him about the long lines for pizza late at night. Since his announcement, Heald's followers have had a mix of reactions, including disappointment in losing the late-night pizza counter and excitement about having more late-night food selections.
